Yonsei University, the oldest and one of the finest universities in Korea. is making an important leap toward space-based astronomy. With a massive long-term support from the Korean Ministry of Science and Technology, Yonsei has recently formed a new research organization focusing on space Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Center for Space Astrophysics (CSA) was established in December 1997 to greatly expand the capability of Korean Astronomy into space based operations. The research interests at CSA cover a variety of subjects including stellar evolution and populations, structure and evolution of galaxies, and observational cosmology. CSA intends to advance the level of its research and education by actively participating international programs of space telescopes.

The first and on-going primary mission of CSA is to participate in the development and operation of space UV telescope(s) with particular emphasis on the evolution of galaxies and the UV radiation from old stellar populations.

Yonsei University has always tried to serve as a bridge between Korea and other culture, and to serve a wider world than just Korea. CSA, the youngest institute of Yonsei, is not an exception in this pursuit of internationalization and therefore is paying special effort to develop and maintain international cooperations in various fields of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
